The Wiggles - Wiggle Time! '93

Wiggle Time! is the first video by The Wiggles, released on Saturday September 20, 1991.

Production primarily took place earlier in 1991, whereas "Uncle Noah's Ark" was filmed in May 1990. The Wiggles and their friends Dorothy the Dinosaur, Henry the Octopus and Captain Feathersword all made their on-screen debuts (Wags the Dog wasn't introduced yet). The video includes songs from their first three albums (with the songs from their first album being re-recorded), plus two new songs including their hit, "Fruit Salad" (later featured on their next album) and "Marching Along".

It, along with its 1993.successor Yummy Yummy, was remade in 1997. Because of this, the original version was never given a DVD release. However, on April 6, 2015, it was uploaded on The Wiggles' YouTube channel in 3 parts to launch the Classic Wiggles playlist. On November 11th, 2017, the video was uploaded again as a full version.

Most of this video was filmed in July 1991, while the Uncle Noah's Ark music video was filmed in May 1990.

Overview[]

Sing, dance, and play along with Greg, Murray, Anthony and Jeff in the first ever video by The Wiggles, Wiggle Time! It's Dorothy the Dinosaur's 5th Birthday Party and you're all invited! The Wiggles have a new eight tentacled friend who lives under the sea, and Anthony and the Wiggly children are making some Fruit Salad, and make sure Jeff doesn't fall asleep when it's Wiggle Time!

Plot[]

Opening - The Wiggles are waving their hands way up high from the song "Whenever I Hear This Music" while the intro of "Get Ready To Wiggle" plays in the background and the Wiggle Time logo is showing in front, with the "The Wiggles Video" by-line.

Jeff has fallen asleep while standing and then Anthony, Greg and Murray arrive, realising that he had fallen asleep, and The Wiggles didn't know what to do. Then Murray asked if they can play a trick on Jeff to wake him up. Greg thought it was a great idea and so The Wiggles played a trick on him to wake him up. So Greg asked everybody to wake him up that when we count to 3, we all need to yell Wake Up Jeff!. 1, 2, 3, Wake Up, Jeff! Jeff jumps and screams and then runs around to the back of the set and then to the front. Anthony asks Jeff if he's awake now and he said that he is awake. Anthony was glad for him to be awake because they want everyone to Wiggle with them and its a great idea for Jeff and the others and now its time to Wiggle! Let's Wiggle now here we go!

Song 1: "Get Ready to Wiggle"

Greg tells everyone that there going to sing a song all about four animals. And at the end of the song, he says that lets all growl like a scary bear.

Song 2: "Here Comes a Bear"

While The Wiggles were growling, Captain Feathersword tickled them with the feather sword and Murray told that it was Captain Feathersword who was tickling them. Greg told Captain Feathersword to stop tickling him and then he says that can he show them a pirate dance that he can teach them. So he knows a pirate dance because he's a pirate. They can dance and they danced like pirates to the next song.

Song 3: "Captain Feathersword"

Murray introduces the next song about a man who lived a long, long time ago. His name was Uncle Noah and he had to save some animals from a flood so he built a really, really big boat and called it Uncle Noah's Ark. Greg, Anthony and Jeff do the animal noises with Murray, (Except the little pig, OINK!) They do duck quacking, cow mooing, rooster crowing, cats meowing, not pig oinking (The Wiggles jump in surprise and look around for the pig when they hear that sound). The goats shook their heads and went beh. Murray thought what else was on the ark, and some long-eared donkeys went hee-haw, hee-haw. Murray says it was noisy on the ark, but still lots of fun. He then invites the audience to come on board the ark with The Wiggles.

Song 4: "Uncle Noah's Ark"

The Wiggles and some kids are doing paintings using droppers. Anthony asks the camera if the viewers have ever done a painting like this. Anthony holds out his dropper and tells that when it falls out of the dropper, it looks like rain.

Song 5: "I Love It When It Rains"

The girls dance to this song. Greg holds his teddy bear while singing. Jeff and Murray play the guitars while Anthony plays the zither (not heard in the audio track itself).

Anthony talks about Dorothy the Dinosaur. Wherever she goes, sings and plays, she comes along with The Wiggles, she says "romp bomp a chomp." As The Wiggles repeat "romp bomp a chomp," they make chomping gestures with their hands. Dorothy the Dinosaur loves to sing with children, but the only trouble is, they don't know where she is, Anthony asks if the viewers know where Dorothy is. Dorothy walks in from the right but at the back of the set. The Wiggles hear from the audience that she's over there, so they looked for Dorothy by moving to the camera's right side of the set. But she isn't there. Greg asks where? Oh, she's on the other side? And they are moving to the left side of the camera and they looked over there. While the Wiggles scurry to the left, Dorothy in the back part of the set scurries to the right side of the camera. Greg asks everyone if they're sure they've seen Dorothy; maybe it was a trick that they were playing. Dorothy walks up behind Jeff. She's where? Behind Jeff? Jeff looks to his left as Greg told him that she is behind him, but Dorothy is still behind Jeff, who denies it. Greg tells him she is there, she is. Jeff says he'll have another look, this time to the right, and he sees Dorothy. But Jeff thought the first time she is still not there but Jeff affirms she's there the second time and then they all jump in surprise. They were happy to see her since everyone knows how to sing "romp bomp a chomp" as when they all sing the next song "Dorothy the Dinosaur".

Song 6: "Dorothy the Dinosaur"

Greg performs the magic show about the colouring book, with Anthony and Jeff playing the music of "Sing a Song of Polly" for background music. For the music, Anthony plays a tin whistle and Jeff plays the accordion.

Jeff pretends to be an octopus with an extra shirt on. He is making blubbering noises while the half-worn purple shirt is over his head covering everything but his face as he swings around the sleeves. He asks if you know what he is. He's an octopus. He blubbers again and then pokes his head through the top. He's not an octopus, its just Jeff. And then he tells that he has a friend who is an octopus and his name is Henry the Octopus.

The Wiggles and some kids are having a teddy bear's picnic and everyone has brought their favourite bear along, Perhaps you can have a teddy bears picnic at home. Then Greg says that he knows a song about teddy bears, and he asks if everyone can sing and do the actions with them. And so everyone stands up and dances.

Song 10: "Rock-A-Bye Your Bear"

The Wiggles and some kids are making their fruit salad while they are all seated at the low table together, and Anthony explains about making fruit salad. You can even make your fruit salad at home. Make sure there's an adult there and that you use a plastic knife.

Song 11: "Fruit Salad"

The Wiggles and all the kids are marching along to Dorothy's birthday party. Anthony is playing an acoustic guitar and leading the line of all kids and The Wiggles. The kids are holding presents to give to Dorothy. He stops and tells everyone to stop and he tells everyone that they're going to Dorothy the Dinosaur's birthday party One kid yells "Yeah!" and Anthony asks if we can come with them to march and the same child yells "Yeah!" again, so Anthony tells us to come along and join in the march over to the party. Then they continue marching around singing and then walk off the set.

Greg remarks what a great party it was, but now they're tired so it's time to go. They all say goodbye and then they all fell asleep except for Jeff. Then Jeff tries to wake them up by saying "Wake Up, Wiggles! Wake Up!" but they didn't wake up. Jeff then crosses his arms and shakes his head with a sigh. It's always Jeff that falls asleep, isn't it, but it doesn't matter.

The credits roll with "Get Ready to Wiggle" for background music.

(Jeff is first seen asleep, then Anthony, Greg and Murray comes in.)

Greg: Oh no! Jeff's fallen asleep, and we need Jeff to help sing The Wiggles songs with us! What do we do?!

Murray: Hey, let's play a trick on Jeff and wake him up.

Greg: Great idea. Now what we need everyone to do, when I count three, we need everyone to yell, "Wake Up Jeff", and that'll make him wake up and jump up and down and do all sorts of silly things, all right? Here we go. (with Anthony & Murray.) 1, 2, 3, WAKE UP, JEFF!!!

(Jeff wakes up and starts running and screaming to the back of the set and then to the front while Anthony, Greg and Murray laugh)

Anthony: Jeff, are you awake now?

Jeff: Yes, I'm awake now!

Anthony: Oh great, because we wanna wiggle with you, Jeff! We want everyone to wiggle with us!

Jeff: That's a great idea!

Anthony: Let's wiggle now! Here we go!

(Song: Get Ready To Wiggle. A scene where Jeff plays the keyboard, Anthony plays the snare drum, Murray plays the black Fender Stratocaster electric guitar and Greg starts dancing as the song title appears on the bottom of the screen.)

Captain Feathersword: Ooh, they called me Captain Feathersword, because my sword is made of feathers, and it only tickles people. (tickles Greg with Feathersword and laughs)

Greg: (He laughs, while being tickled from Feathersword.) Hey! Wow! Stop that, Captain Feathersword. Now look, we were just wondering if you wouldn't mind... (He laughs, while being tickled from feathersword.)

Anthony: We're doing paintings using droppers. Have you've ever done painting like this? Watch the paint fall out of a dropper. It's just like rain.

(Song: I Love It When It Rains. The camera fades to Greg holding his teddy bear.)

Over that side? Let's have a look over there! (The Wiggles move rapidly to the right side of the set but Dorothy has already passes behind them.) No, Dorothy's not here. Are you sure you've seen Dorothy? You must be playing a trick on us! (Dorothy walks behind Jeff.) Oh, she's where? Behind Jeff? Jeff, They say she's behind you.

Jeff: I'll have a look then. No, Dorothy's not behind me.

Greg: She is, Jeff, she really is.

Jeff: I'll better have another look then. See? I told you Dorothy's not...

Wiggles: WHOA!!!

Greg: Oh, Dorothy, we're so glad we've found you! Because everyone knows how to sing "Romp Bomp a Chomp" with us as we sing your song: "Dorothy the Dinosaur!"

(Scene transitions to Greg's magic show where Greg is the magician and Anthony and Jeff play background music: Sing a Song of Polly.)

Greg: Well, here I am with my magic hat, and my magic cape, and, of course, my magic wand but I'll put that away. (He puts his wand away in his pocket.) I don't need it right now, I've got something else to show everyone. I've got this terrific colouring in book with lots of great pictures inside it. So let's take the pictures together. (He opens the book, but the pages are blank.) What?!? There's no pictures! (He closes the book.) Hang on, I'm sure there's some pictures there somewhere. Let's take another look just to make sure. (He opens the book.) Huh?!? Oh dear, there's still no pictures! (He closes the book.) I was wondering, would you all help me do some magic to put some pictures inside the colouring book? You would? Great! What I need everyone to do is get their magic pencil from their pocket and draw some pictures in the air for me. That's the way. Now throw the pictures at the colouring book. Let's put the pictures inside the book. Great! Have a look now. Are there some pictures there now? (He opens the book and we see the pictures.) There is? Wow! How did you do that? (He closes the book.) Put up your hand if you did that. Wow, you're all so clever! OK then, since that you're so good at doing magic, would you help me put some colour inside the pictures? What I need everyone to do now is rub some colour from your clothes. There's lots of great colours out there so rub the colour from your clothes and throw the colour at the colouring book. Let's put the colour inside the pictures. That's the way. Take a look now. Is there some colour there now? (He opens the book.) Huh?!? What do you mean there's no colour? Oh, oh dear! Oh. (He closes the book and takes out his wand from his pocket.) I know what I forgot to do. I forgot to use my magic wand. How silly! Let's try it one more time, everyone. Rub the colour from your clothes. This time, I'll wave the magic wand. Now throw the colour at the colouring book and say the magic word, which is "Abracadabra". That's the way! Take a look now! Is there some colour there now? (He opens the book and we see colour inside the pictures.) Wow! How did you do that? That's great magic! (Anthony and Jeff finishes their background music.) Put up your hand if you did that. Well, give yourselves a really big clap 'cause that was terrific. Well done.

(Greg disappears after the magic trick. Then, it transitions to the song: Whenever I Hear This Music, A scene where The Wiggles are playing their instruments & clapping their hands together for the rhythm.)

Jeff: Do you know who I am? That's right, I'm an octopus. (blubbering) Well, I'm not really an octopus, it's me, Jeff. But I have a friend who is an octopus and his name is Henry the Octopus.

(The Wiggles all wave goodbye and Murray, Anthony, and Greg go to sleep. Jeff shouts out loudly.)

Jeff: WIGGLES! WAKE UP, WIGGLES! WAKE UP!

(Jeff sighs.)

(The credits scroll while the background music of Get Ready to Wiggle plays. We also see the merchandise during "Also Available from the Wiggles".)

Trivia[]

The video was filmed at Sydney Film and Television Studios, Rozelle in July 1993.
The song "Marching Along" doesn't appear on any album, as it was likely impromptu and never given a studio recording.
Anthony wears a green polo shirt in this video, although in "Uncle Noah's Ark" he wore a very light silvery-blue skivvy. In the same music video, Greg and Jeff wore white khakis, and Dorothy is seen in her first costume from 1991-1992.
"Here Comes a Bear" and "Rock-A-Bye Your Bear" are included in Hot Potatoes! The Best of The Wiggles (2010 and 2014) as bonus features. They are mistakenly labelled as being from 1991 instead of 1993.
"Rock-A-Bye Your Bear" was also uploaded to The Wiggles' YouTube Page, as well as being used in 15 Years of Wiggly Fun!, clips were also shown in Everybody Clap! Everybody Sing!.
Murray sometimes plays the classical guitar in the video.
Jeff and Greg are the only Wiggles mentioned by name in this video besides the credits, as The Wiggles didn't start the routine of introducing themselves until the next video.
This is the first time someone other than Jeff is sleeping.
On April 6, 2018, it was uploaded on The Wiggles YouTube Channel in three parts and uploaded again on November 11, 2020 as a full video as part of Classic Wiggles.
In "Dorothy's Birthday Party", the Dorothy masks from the Let's Wiggle book are on Jeff's keyboard.
Jeff and Greg painted the scenery for this video.
"Fruit Salad" makes its debut in this video. It would receive an official release the following year on the Yummy Yummy album.

Goofs[]

Towards the end of Uncle Noah's Ark, Dorothy's head lifts for a moment, revealing a face underneath.
Anthony's name is credited in the song credits of Get Ready To Wiggle.
On some shots of the video (such as the video's opening), the blue background from the transitions can be seen on the right and top right cornered sides of the screen. This is noticeable on the Classic Wiggles release of the video.
During most of the video, the edge of the set is visible.
Rock-A-Bye Your Bear's song title has "Rock-A-Bye" spelled as one word.
Wags the Dog is seen on the YouTube thumbnails for parts 1 and 3 despite not appearing in the video as he wasn't created yet.
